About me
Dr. Seena M. Skelton has over 30 years of experience in learning, teaching, assessment, and educational equity. A Detroit Public Schools graduate, she holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Central Michigan University and both a master’s in education and a doctorate in school psychology from the University of Cincinnati.
As a Black woman born with a disability, Dr. Skelton integrates her lived experiences with her expertise as a former school psychologist, educational consultant, and leader in statewide and national equity initiatives. She has served as co-director of professional learning at the Equity Alliance at Arizona State University and director of two equity assistance centers—the Region V Great Lakes Equity Center and the Region III Midwest and Plains Equity Assistance Center at Indiana University.
In her role as Director at the Midwest and Plains Equity Assistance Center, she led equity-focused services for state and local education agencies across 13 states. She has worked extensively on disproportionality, culturally responsive instruction, inclusive education, multi-tiered support systems, home-school collaboration, and universal design for learning.
A sought-after speaker, Dr. Skelton has delivered keynotes, presented at regional, national, and international conferences, and served as adjunct faculty at four universities. She has authored numerous publications, including book chapters and peer-reviewed articles. She is currently an associate editor for Exceptional Children and previously co-edited Multiple Voices: Disability, Race, and Language Intersections in Special Education.
